Thailand Advances Waste-to-Energy Development to Support the Circular Economy

Thailand continues to promote waste-to-energy development as part of efforts to improve waste management, increase renewable energy use, and support the Circular Economy. Recent projects, such as an integrated waste-to-energy initiative in Ban Phru Municipality, Songkhla Province, demonstrate the growing potential to convert municipal waste into energy and Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) for industrial use.

The project includes a community waste-to-energy plant, a waste sorting facility, wastewater treatment, and a sanitary landfill. It is designed to process approximately 400 tons of waste per day for energy production, while the sorting facility can handle 300–600 tons of waste per day and produce 100–200 tons of RDF.

Such initiatives reflect Thailand's broader efforts to improve waste management, promote alternative energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advance long-term sustainability and carbon neutrality goals.
