10-Story-High Garbage Pile Collapses in Cebu City, 1 Dead, 38 Missing 

  • In early January 2026, a garbage pile as high as a 10-story building collapsed at the Binaliw landfill in Binaliw District, Cebu City, Philippines. The incident resulted in a large number of deaths and missing persons. Preliminary findings indicated that the collapse was caused by the structure supporting the accumulated waste being overloaded beyond its capacity, ultimately leading to structural failure and collapse.
